Leaders who primarily use this style tend to be modest, precise, methodical, with a soft voice, a monotonous tone, and a slow pace. Their methodical and consistent style often makes it easier for others to follow. .
Because they want to maintain a stable environment, they naturally distrust change and may prefer standard operating procedures over new and innovative methods.
Best qualities: modest, fair, they are leaders who provide achievable, well-structured goals through consistent and proven processes or with minimal risks.
Barriers: rigid to change, extremely cautious, and inclined to maintain the status quo.
Main Characteristics of Humble Leaders:
- Goals: stability in the environment, achievable goals, guaranteed processes.
- Under stress: easily yields, disconnects from conflict, inflexible.
- Fears: unexpected changes in the environment.
- Need: security.
- Judges others: based on their standards, realistic temperament.
- Pace: slow.
- Communication: indirect.
- Response to rules: guarantor, needs them, reluctant to change them.
Disadvantages:
- Very traditional approaches.
- Too much caution.
- Excessive humility.
- Yields to pressure from others.
Where they may also need reinforcement:
- Show more sense of urgency.
- Initiate and promote necessary changes.
- Communicate more assertively.
- Take initiative.
Strengths:
- They are able to avoid potential problems through careful planning.
- Provide others with the necessary tools to do their job well.
- They are able to create stable and secure environments.

This style, as you can see, is at the extreme “west” of the octagon, ensuring processes and not losing sight of people, but it may react slowly to unexpected changes in objectives and deadlines. In its opposite, we would have a Pioneer Leadership style… Can you imagine these two working together?
